7 Top Tips for the First-time Trade Show Exhibitor

Imagine a place where you can meet all your customers, old and new, face to face – a place where customers are looking and expecting to buy from you. It’s no wonder that exhibitions are as popular as ever for any business seriously intent on maximising sales.

But with that popularity comes competition. Having a competitive advantage at exhibitions is crucial for your company and the exhibition stand is an important factor. This is your chance to bring your company to life!

When you’ve identified your exhibition, the two most popular ways to exhibit are shell schemes and open plan. But how do you decide?

Your available budget will undoubtedly guide you here and although this will vary from exhibition to exhibition, for equivalent sizes expect shell schemes to be less expensive than open space up to about 20 square metres. Above this size and space can become a more competitive option.

Hiring ‘space only’ at your exhibition more often means a greater demand on your time and resource and you will require working drawings for workshops, joinery, print – everything you need for your custom-build solution. And there are logistical considerations too. A substantial part of your budget might be transport, storage and installation. A two-day build will have implications on man-hours and accommodation, and a de-rig at the end of the event too.

Shell Schemes, on the other hand are predefined areas where the exhibition organisers provide a basic package of walling, lighting, carpet and electrical sockets. They normally occupy the perimeter of the halls, side by side, and are around 3m x 3m in size. They have the same height and some come with a fascia panel with the stand number and company name included in the package. Others have casement ceilings, steel latticework or no ceiling at all. The walls are made from individual panels and are generally covered in a Velcro friendly material for applying exhibition graphics or deploying portable display equipment such as Pop Up Display Stands and Roller Banners.

Where’s the best spot to help you meet your exhibition objectives? Location! Location! Location! If a better position within the exhibition hall increases your chances of delivering twice the sales then it may be worth the additional investment. The most prominent positions in the exhibition hall are often ‘snapped up’ early and in some cases are pre-booked by the savvy exhibitors for the following year while the show is still in full swing. So a quick visit to the organisers’ office during the show is a great way to guarantee the pick of the stand locations for next years exhibition.

What do you hope to achieve at the exhibition? It’s really important you give this serious thought in advance and to develop a clear brief for your exhibition stand. It’s a good idea that your objectives follow the S.M.A.R.T. rules, making them Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timely. For example, a specific goal might be: to develop 20 new sales leads each day, distribute 50 sample packs or arrange 10 high quality appointments for the weeks after the show.

Exhibiting can be an intense process but can also provide excellent returns if you plan thoroughly and are committed to achieve the right results for your business.

From some simple advice and guidance to fully managed exhibition services, companies such as The Image Group can help you enjoy the peace of mind that the whole process is managed under one roof by a team of experts. Creative expertise can help your business to stand out from the crowd, particularly with photo-realistic full colour exhibition graphics, fabric printing, lighting and digital signage technology.

When you choose the right exhibition partner to manage aspects such as power requirements, organiser liaison, safety and security and Internet connections to name a few, this leaves you to concentrate on what you do best. That’s to tell people your story and win some new business!

TOP TIP: Communicating Your Message. The first thing to remember is it’s not about what you want to tell people, but what they want to hear from you. Exhibition delegates certainly don’t want reams and reams of copy-heavy prose to trawl through. They simply won’t read it.

· Keep text to a bare minimum and deliver your message with complete clarity

· Use bullet points for helpful summaries

· Keep your main message at eye height (at least above one metre)

· Use professional eye-catching images to reinforce your message

TOP TIP: Keep it Open. Don’t be guilty of blocking stand access with furniture, meeting areas, AV, or even pushy staff! Keep your stand entrance as open as possible to make it easy for delegates to circulate.

TOP TIP: See the light. Lighting really can make or break your stand so experiment with direction, intensity and colour of lighting. Use it to create impact and draw visitors in.

TOP TIP: Go higher! Check with the organisers but some will allow you to build up to 6 metres high and you get charged no extra for using this space! Realise the opportunity and ensure the stand is clearly visible in the exhibition hall.

TOP TIP: Expect the unexpected and build in a contingency. If it’s your own installation get in early, on the first day of build. Delays can be costly paying for labour waiting to gain access to power or the venue itself. At some shows there can be as many as 100 articulated lorries all wanting access to the same show at the same time.

TOP TIP: Let’s get creative and use those senses. Exhibitions are unique in their ability to breathe life into your company message using all the senses. Use sounds, colours, smells and even food to make it memorable. And capture the spirit of your business with interactive AV presentations.

TOP TIP: Keep it simple and keep your stand focused on the key objectives. Over complicated sign systems and difficult installations can work against your objectives. Be as creative as you like, but make sure your stand compliments your key objectives and doesn’t detract from your message.

Simple Tips On How To Be A Day Trader

Day trading is the practice of buying and selling stocks in the course of one trading day.  That means buying when it’s cheap, selling when it’s more expensive, all in the same day and finishing with no stocks in your name at the end of the day.  As you can expect, there is the potential for great profit as well as great loss.  It does take capital though, and might just lose it all.  Here are a few tips on how to be a day trader.

First off, the money you use should be money you can afford to lose.  That means setting aside some of your savings, and not quitting your day job.   You will not want to make this your main source of income unless you are totally confident of your skills.  Why set aside only part of your savings?  Well, you could easily lose much of the money you put into the market especially if you are a novice, and so it is a good idea to have something in reserve.

Secondly, get an education.  We are not exactly talking about taking finance in some college somewhere – if you did you might as well be a full-time stock broker, right?  No, in this case we are talking about short courses available online.  There are lots of online entities that offer tutorials, reference material, and practice opportunities for wannabe day traders.  Prices and qualities may vary, so make sure to browse and choose carefully.

Third tip: observe and learn carefully.  Pay attention in these classes in order to get your money’s worth or even more.  If you know a successful day trader, ask if you can sit in on one of his or her sessions.  Note how large a margin they use to determine when to buy and to sell.  When you are in the market yourself, note your mistakes and successes carefully.  That way you can refine your style and get greater profits.

If you are not quite that confident yet, try swing trading.  No, that’s not the trading of playground equipment. Rather it is the practice of buying and selling stocks, but holding them for days or weeks.  It is a less intensive variant, which you can use as a stepping stone to day trading, where exchanges can happen in minutes.

Find a discount brokerage that allows trading online.  Being able to do your trading online is much more convenient than the more traditional models for brokering.  These smaller firms will also have lower minimum amounts for establishing accounts.  Some can even go as low as USD2500 for a new margin account.

Our final tip on how to be a day trader: don’t follow the herd.  Learn to spot and discern whether the rush to buy or sell is justified, or if the herd is a herd of lemmings racing off a cliff.  Just because lots of people are doing it is no reason that you should do it too.  Don’t let the bandwagon mentality take over – stay smart.

E-Mini Futures ? Trading And Learning With The Pro?S Pro

Reality TV is a mind-numbing constant on sets around the world.  Whether you’re in Australia, Japan or the good ‘ol U.S. of A., people tune in by the tens of millions to watch performance and survival competitions of every possible style.

I believe that one of the main reasons people tune in so readily is that we have a deep-seated curiosity to see the “real thing” in action, to see truly talented people separate themselves from the pack.  For example, which one in this group of nannies, auto mechanics and school teachers will prove that they can sing well enough to earn a recording contract?  Or who can survive the physical and psychological rigors of the Australian Outback?

People around the globe love to see the cream rise to the top.

In a very real way, the financial markets set up their own reality game – one that is played out every day and one where the score is kept in terms of both dollars and psychological capital.

I want to re-introduce you to one of the “real deals” from Wall Street, my good friend and business partner Christopher Castroviejo.  Christopher is truly the pro’s pro when it comes to trading.

I want to tell you a bit more about him and his background, but before I do that, I wanted to share some of the things that I have learned while trading, working, teaching, and managing money with Christopher.  Here are the lessons that I have learned from the “Pro’s Pro”:

First and foremost, professionals have an understanding of what works in the market.  They turn that market knowledge into a plan, and then stick to the plan in an unwavering manner.

Pro traders have a game plan and prepare for the market each day.  This preparation gives them a structure to provide consistent results while enabling them to have the flexibility to make money under many different market conditions.

Pro traders take what the market gives instead of forcing their will (or their strategy) on the market.  They have multiple tools in their toolkit to allow them to participate in different market conditions.

And of course, pro traders follow Van’s Ten Task of Trading.  Van has been modeling trading excellence for decades and his “Ten Tasks” are the cornerstone characteristics that are shared by everyone who rises to the top.

A Market Maven in the Every Sense of the Word

I’ve had the pleasure of trading with many different professional traders.  My good friend and business partner Christopher Castroviejo is at the top of that heap.

Webster defines the word “maven” as one who is experienced or knowledgeable. But Christopher is more aptly described by the Wordnet definition: “someone who is dazzlingly skilled in any field”.  Christopher’s depth and breadth of knowledge in the trading world is second to no one that I know.  But that knowledge didn’t come overnight…

Christopher has spent 37 years in and around the markets, and his resume’ and track record on Wall Street became something of legend; stints with Smith Barney, J.P. Morgan, a partnership at Bear Stearns, financial consultant for The Vatican Bank to name a few. Christopher was hot and getting hotter. Highlights including turning $10,000 into $178,000 in four weeks, 8 straight years of 43% compounded profits as a top hedge fund manager, a sleek Manhattan brownstone and a spacious summer getaway in the tony Hamptons.  Christopher even struck up a friendship with his money making idol, billionaire George Soros (to be honest, the people Christopher has worked with in the field is a veritable “who’s who” of Wall Street elite).

Along with multi-million dollar wins, there were a few huge losses; in just six short weeks, $10,000 became a cool million, and quickly nothing but air. And, in one monumental transaction gone wrong, Christopher lost $15 million dollars in just a few months…$1.5 million of it his own money. But, unlike the Vegas poker player who can’t leave the table, Christopher learned from the missteps as well as the wins. “You have to reinvent your performance all the time. I used to see the business as just about orchestrating wins, but the rational way of thinking about it is really about controlling your losses.”

Anyone who has read Jack Schwager’s “Market Wizards” series knows that many of those top drawer players became the traders they are by learning lessons in their own personal “trials by fire”.  Christopher has certainly been through his own version!

Today, Christopher is an active intraday and swing trader and he continues to manage money for a select list of Wall Street insiders.

Christopher is a master at several aspects of intraday trading and is particularly skilled in the application of key level support / resistance and Market Profile. We will be covering these topics in depth at the upcoming Professional E-Mini Futures Tactics workshop.

Christopher will join me in teaching this cutting edge workshop on e-mini index trading in Las Vegas on March 27 – 29.  This course has received rave reviews from attendees.  Since we only we teach the workshop a couple of times per year — it’s one you don’t want to miss!

Daily Market Commentary for October 21, 2008 from Millennium-Traders.Com

Earnings released of late have assisted in putting a damper on market gains. It’s to be expected, in this poor economy that corporations were likely to release worse than expected earnings. (read more)

Economic data released today:

Redbook:
U.S. Retail Sales fell 1.1 percent during first two weeks during October versus September. Target was at a 1.0 percent decline. Seasonally-adjusted sales during the month to date were up 0.7 percent compared to October 2007, in line with the target. On an unadjusted basis, sales during the week ending October 18 were up 0.8 percent from the same week during 2007, after a 0.5 percent gain in the previous week. ICSC-Goldman Sachs Chain Store Sales Down 1.6 percent for week of October 18. Chicago Fed 3-Mo average Shows Increasing likelihood of recession; Chicago Fed Index September 3-Month moving average fell 1.78 versus August drop by 1.18; Chicago Fed September National Activity Index fell 2.57 versus drop by 1.61 during August. Chicago Fed September National Activity Index points toward an official Recession. U.S. economic activity weakened further in September, with a key indicator signaling that a recession is underway per the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. The Chicago Fed’s National Activity Index fell to negative 2.57 last month, from negative 1.61 during August. Majority of the decline was driven by a steep drop in industrial production. All four of the broad categories of indicators made negative contributions to the index. The three-month moving average dropped to negative 1.78 during September, from negative 1.18 during August. The sub-zero figure suggests that growth in national economic activity is below its historical trend. It also markets the 10th consecutive month that the three-month moving average has “indicated an increasing likelihood that a recession has begun,” Chicago Fed stated in a Tuesday morning news release. The data also indicates low inflationary pressures. Several Federal Reserve members have recently predicted that a slowing economy will have a dampening impact on inflation. Total industrial production plunged 2.8 percent in September from a 1.0 percent decline during August, according to the Chicago Fed. “Temporary disruptions in production due to recent hurricanes accounted for most of the decline in total industrial production in September.”

Penny Stocks – Best Penny Stock Picks

The best thing about penny stocks and the reason why they are the favorite of many traders, both novice and seasoned ones is the fact that they have the potential to earn vast amounts of money fast. But this is only possible, of course, if you know how to select the best penny stock picks. If you think it is hard to pick the best penny stock picks, think again. Many average people have done so and so can you.

There are many resources available that could help pick the best penny stock picks. One of the best places to seek information and advice about penny stocks trading are penny stock websites. Most of these websites are membership only sites. Which means you can only access the information in these websites by paying a monthly or annual subscription fee. The actual value, however, of the information that you will be able to acquire form these websites are priceless and can help you become successful in penny stock trading.

There are also websites that offer free penny stock trading advice. But you need to be wary of sites that provide free information especially about stock trading. As they say, there is no such thing as a free lunch. You should at least be suspicious of the motives of anyone who offers supposedly free advice that can make you tons of money.

Sites that offer free trading advice usually have a hidden agenda. One possibility is that the owner of the website is affiliated with stock picks that he is recommending. Of course, you can’t expect an unbiased information from someone like that. If someone has information that has the potential to earn cash you can’t expect him to give away that information for free.

The least that you could do after you have been given an advice that you are not sure of is to look for secondary sources of information. Research is the best ally of any penny stock trader. If you were offered a tip about a certain stock pick, immediately perform a research on the company selling the stock.

Remember, in penny stock trading it is better to acquire information from sites that require a reasonable subscription because these are the sites that usually provide the best penny stock picks. After all, penny stock trading requires investment and the fees to these sites is just additional investment to assure that you will maximize your earning potential from penny stock trading. It is better to invest on a small amount and earn a fortune than to rely on free information and lose your money in the process.
